Although we hardly dare to complain about hot weather, we know that being pregnant in summer is no easy feat! The sweat is real, Mama. You were already struggling to sleep at night and now a heatwave has arrived in full force. Here are 10 ways to keep cool when you’re pregnant!

- Stay hydrated
We know, it seems obvious. However it’s easy to overlook how much water you truly do need to drink, especially when you’re expecting. Get yourself a nice water bottle and sip all day long to keep cool when you’re pregnant in summer.

- Ice your feet in a washing up bowl
You don’t need anything fancy to cool down, feet first. Tip some ice and some water into a washing up bowl or bucket and soak your feet. Oh the relief! This is also great if you’re experiencing swollen ankles in pregnancy.
- Put a bowl of ice in front of a fan for DIY air-con
Yes! This hack really does work. No air-con? No problem! Keep cool when you’re pregnant in summer by placing a bowl of ice in front of your fan. We don’t really know how it works but trust us, it does.

- Stay in the shade
Dehydration and heatstroke can be dangerous in pregnancy so although it’s fine to sunbathe a little, it’s important you chill out in the shade too. Treat yourself to a nice umbrella and pour a mocktail – if you squint, it’s a *bit* like being on holiday…

- Use a cooling spray
Cooling spray mists are an absolute godsend when it’s hot outside! Keep cool when you’re pregnant by keeping a can nearby. These are also really handy in labour and on hot hospital wards so stock up Mama! You can create your own too using a spray bottle.

- Keep your bump cream in the fridge
Pop your bump cream (and your face cream, body lotions, aloe vera etc!) in the fridge for a lovely cooling treat at the end of the day. We love the Mama Mio Tummy Rub Butter which has a really fresh scent too, perfect for keeping cool when you’re pregnant in summer.

- Cold flannels are your friend
Rinse a flannel or a muslin in cold water then pop it in the fridge. When it’s cool, lay one over your forehead and one over your bump for instant relief!Stock up on ice lollies
- Stock up on ice lollies
Not only are they delicious, but ice lollies also serve a very important purpose when it’s hot outside. They’ll help you to stay hydrated, keep your glucose levels up and cool you down. They’re practically medicinal… *ahem* don’t quote us on that. You can make your own healthy ones using homemade smoothies, coconut water and fresh juice in moulds.
- Have a cool shower or bath
Studies have shown it’s actually more beneficial to have a lukewarm shower or bath to cool you down, rather than an icy cold one. Wallow away in cool water or let a gentle shower help to keep you cool when you’re pregnant in summer.
- Get a paddling pool
Paddling pools are absolutely not just for kids! They’re a great way to enjoy being outside in hot weather whilst keeping your body temperature down too.
